Maa Mathiyana Devi Temple History

According to the ancient folk tale, Mathiyana Devi was the Dhyani of Sirwadi Garh Dynasty. She married to the prince of Tibet. Her husband is murdered with the help of her stepmother by the help of some people of the rebellion. In the sorrow of her husband’s death, she goes to Suraj Prayag to become a Sati. Then from Suraj Prayag, the goddess appear and she gives punishment to the guilty and settles there for public welfare. Jagar is organized in this temple every 3 years in which the saga of the goddess is mentioned.

Another story is when Mother Sati was keen to fire herself, after which, Lord Shiva was very angry and touring the entire universe with her body. To calm Lord Rama’s anger, Lord Vishnu did 51 pieces of Mother Sati with his weapon. Which fell in 51 places on earth and today all the places are known as Siddha Pith. The Matiyana Devi Temple is one of them. But this story can also be a myth because Mathiyana Devi Temple is not mentioned in the list of Siddh Peeth.
