Maa Mathiyana Devi Temple or Mathyana Devi Temple is located in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. This temple is maintained by the Gram Panchayat Jakholi Bhramans. Maa Maithiyana Devi is the Kuldevi of Bhardari Dynasty. It is believed that the devotees who go to this temple with the empty stomach, their desire is fulfilled. And on completion of the wish, the devotee raises a bell in this temple.
This temple is located in a very calm environment and the best place to visit with family. From one side the temple is surrounded by dense forest and on the other side, the temple premises offers a beautiful view of Himalaya ranges. While you are traveling to Mathiayna Devi Mandir there is a temple named Dhari Devi, 14 km away from Srinagar Garhwal.
Maa Mathiyana Devi Temple History
According to the ancient folk tale, Mathiyana Devi was the Dhyani of Sirwadi Garh Dynasty. She married to the prince of Tibet. Her husband is murdered with the help of her stepmother by the help of some people of the rebellion. In the sorrow of her husband’s death, she goes to Suraj Prayag to become a Sati. Then from Suraj Prayag, the goddess appear and she gives punishment to the guilty and settles there for public welfare. Jagar is organized in this temple every 3 years in which the saga of the goddess is mentioned.
Another story is when Mother Sati was keen to fire herself, after which, Lord Shiva was very angry and touring the entire universe with her body. To calm Lord Rama’s anger, Lord Vishnu did 51 pieces of Mother Sati with his weapon. Which fell in 51 places on earth and today all the places are known as Siddha Pith. The Matiyana Devi Temple is one of them. But this story can also be a myth because Mathiyana Devi Temple is not mentioned in the list of Siddh Peeth.
How to reach Mathiyana Devi Temple
By Air: The nearest airport from Mathiyana Devi Temple is Jollygrant airport which is 200 km away. From Jollygran airport the visitors can hire a cab to reach Maithiyana MAndir.
By Train: The nearest railway station from Mathiyana Devi Temple is Rishikesh railway station which is 200 km away. After reaching the railway station the visitors can hire a taxi to reach the temple.
By Road: If you are traveling from Delhi then you can take a direct bus from ISBT Kashmiri gate to reach Rudraprayag. After reaching Rudraprayag taxi is available to reach the temple. From Rudraprayag, the temple is 35 km away which take 1.3 hours.
There are two ways to reach the temple. The first way is from Srinagar from where the visitors have to come via Tilbada and Saunda village. From Saunda village, the visitors have to walk a 2 km distance to reach the temple. The second way is from Kirti Nagar from which the visitors have to travel via Badyargad, Saurakhal village.
