Forest Research Institute Dehradun (FRI) is located in Uttarakhand’s capital. FRI was founded in 1878 by Dietrich Brandis as the British Imperial Forest Research Institute. It was re-established in 1906 as a State Forest Research Institute under the British Imperial Forestry Service. It was created by C.G. Bloomfield in Greco-Roman architecture style.
The main building was inaugurated by Viceroy Willington in 1929. It is now a national heritage site. The building was listed for a time as the structure of the world’s largest purely brick in the Guinness Book of Records. There are six museums here: Pathology Museum, Social Forestry Museum, Civic Museum, Timber Museum, Non-Wood Forest Produce Museum, Entomology Museum.
Films have been shot in Forest Research Institute Dehradun, including Krishna Cottage, Rehana Hai Tere Dil Mein, Pan Singh Tomar, Students of the Year 1 and 2. Born Vita’s television commercial advertisement was also shot here. Before becoming a full-time contributor in the independence movement, Rash Bihari Bose worked as a major clerk here.

FRI is located at a distance of 6 km from Clocktower, Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The nearest airport from FRI is Jollygrant (31 km) and the nearest railway station is Dehradun Railway station (6 km). From the railway station, the visitors can hire an auto or cab and from the airport, the visitor can take a cab to reach FRI.
Another way to reach FRI to take the bus going from Jollygrant to Premnagar. The bus passes through the clock tower and railway station.

M.sc Wood Science and technology: Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or B.sc in Forestry.
M.sc Forestry: Bachelor’s degree in science with at least one of the subject following- Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Geology or Bachelor degree in Forestry or Agriculture.
M.sc Environment Management: Three year Bachelor degree in any branch of science or Forestry or Agriculture or BE in Environment.
